How to Calculate Full Tire Diameter (Inches)
Full Diameter = Rim Diameter + 2 × (Tire Width × Aspect Ratio / 100 / 25.4)
Example (255/70R18):
- Tire Width: 255 mm
- Aspect Ratio: 70
- Rim Diameter: 18 inches
Step 1: Sidewall Height
255 × 70 / 100 / 25.4 = 7.02 inches
Step 2: Full Diameter
18 + 2 × 7.02 = 32.06 inches
Result: A tire with a 32.06-inch diameter requires a 17-inch spare tire cover.
- If your tire diameter is 29.3 inches, choose a 16-inch cover for a comfortable fit.
- If your tire diameter is 29.1 inches, you can use a 15-inch cover, but it will be snug.
